Visiting wineries in Italy
I traveled to Northern Italy with my family in this early summer.
The sun rises just after 5 a.m. and stays bright until around 10:30 p.m., allowing for full days of enjoyment.
The highlight of this trip was visiting Italian wineries and staying at accommodations run by the winery owners.
First, we went to Alba in the Piedmont region.
Alba is famous for producing renowned wines like Barolo and Barbaresco, and is also known for delicious white truffles.
At a Barolo winery, I learned about the challenges of winemaking in the face of climate change and the efforts made by generations of winemakers to produce high-quality wine.
We also had a tasting session of their proud creations.
In the evening, we stayed at a hotel nestled in a vast vineyard, where we enjoyed a luxurious dinner featuring locally sourced vegetables, ham, and cheese paired with wine. Next, we visited a small village called Nimis near the Slovenian border to experience agriturismo. Agriturismo combines agriculture (agricoltura) and tourism (turismo), offering farm stays.
Surrounded by vineyards, the agriturismo offered activities like winery tours, wine tastings, and cycling, giving us a glimpse into the life of wine farmers.
The on-site restaurant served dishes made from local ingredients paired with wine, allowing us to savor the essence of local produce.
We enjoyed rich moments of dining together with local food and wine, reminding me of the importance of leisurely and abundant time that we often forget in the convenience of city life.
